The organization began in 1996 when Dr William DeJong, along with his 16 year old son, visited the islands of Honduras. During their stay Dr DeJong was deeply moved by the poor conditions of the rural schools and decided to gather a group of likeminded friends he knew would work together to help make a difference.

And so, Schools for the Children of the World was created – a team which brings together architects, engineers, teachers and other professionals who work with local communities in developing countries, designing and building schools for the local children. As a non-profit organization, SCW has been active since 2002 within the United States and more latterly setting up in Honduras , Canada, Great Britain and Germany.

The European operation, based out of Germany, is making incredible progress in its development and the team are working hard on their first build project – a Community Learning Center in Gbarnga, Liberia, a country which after 14 years of civil war faces many problems, including the provision of education to its citizens.

A number of Datapoint employees have had the pleasure of meeting some of the team members of Schools for the Children of the World e.V. (Germany), and were captivated by the enthusiasm, engagement and perseverance of the team. We decided to combine our expertise with a befriended company Caliper and together support the volunteers with our IT skills.

So far, as a result of our joint commitment, SCW has successfully launched its website and Facebook profile. Please visit their site and Facebook page and hopefully support their actions!

The support of the project also involves people from companies such as: Wrigley, SAP AG, Autodesk, Siemens AG, BMW AG.

You may also visit the Better Place portal, where you can make a donation, large or small, to help deliver the project in Liberia.
